And after having admired all the beauties of our beloved Prague, just once more: w e l c o m e !
and this time in our school …
We must tell you that the care for the sicks and the olds has an ancient tradition. It was one of our Duchesses - St. Agnes from the illustrious family of our rulers, The Premyslids, who consecrated her life to the care for those who were in need.. After her, a noble lady Zdislava from a venerable aristocratical family, continued this work, full of devotion and misericordy towards those, whose were suffering.. This is the past, but now we come back to the present. Our school was founded in the year 1953. It means that this school year in spring we´ re going to celebrate 50-year anniversary of the foundation of our school. About 650 students are studying there in the school year 2002/2003, involved 25 classes. The fact that its building forms a part of one of the greatest Prague hospital is very im-portant. The students have the possibility to practise daily in the different departments of the hospital all what they have re-cently learnt in theory. Experienced teachers explain the fresh young girls all they need for their future job. The best doctors of all the kinds of medical care come daily to hand the students over they have known during their practice in the hospital and their respective bran-ches: surgery, neurology, cardiology, plastical surgery, gynecology, children's care… And, above all, their common aim is to have not only skilfful hands to relieve in pains but also a gentle heart, and to be sensible to the troubles of the patients and a graceful smile. Now read and learn in details what our work consists of. First we'd like to let you know the structure of education in our republic. Even in future this structure should not be changed in its principles, but it is necessary to raise the pervasion among the individual types of schools and to offer a broad choice of postgradual studies. The system of our schooling on the diagram - next page. There is not a great difference between the cited system of schooling and the special nursing schooling. We accord a greater importance to the post-leaving graduation. Our school has got for aim to educate in a four-year daily study a general nurse, after having absolved the primary school. We offer the following specializations : a general nurse for adults in the evening classes, a nurse assistant and a prosthetics. After the school-leaving examination students receive the School-Leaving Certificate and they can apply for study at uni-versities and colleges or they can receive higher professional education. Some words about our payments

According to the economical reform just performed in our republic, there are considerous changes in payments not only in the industrial establishments but also in the health-service. Since 1.5.1992 a new payment-system has been established, valid for the whole health-service and its special schools. The payment depends on the degree of education and according to the length of practice of each employee. An average payment of a nurse is : 7.000,- Kc a physician : 8.000, - 20.000,- Kc (and more) the teacher of Special Nursing School: 8.000,- 15.000,- Kc

Future prospects

Education at our school will undergo several important changes. We have to overcome the prejudice that only girls can become good nurses. We are going to admit more boys and encourage children of both sexes to be interested in our specialization. At present we cooperate with the faculty hospital and intend to extend our cooperation to other hospitals, especially to former State Sanatorium. We will be in close contacts with the Medical Faculty. The introduction of general practitioners will create great demand for people with this kind of education. We are very grateful for the ideas and help medical organizations and schools in Belgiu.We would like to equip our students with the best knowledge and skills, teaching them to love people at the same time, as the human understanding forms the essential part of medical care.
